Bringing Honor to the Court

Through personal memoirs, Talmudic insights and interactive discussion, the Honorable Louis H. Kornreich shares his expertise and experience synthesizing civil law and Jewish ethics in the practice of law, the judiciary and mediation to promote the highest standards of ethics and integrity.

Before leaving the bench after fourteen years of service, Louis H. Kornreich was Chief Judge of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maine. He was a member of the Bankruptcy Appellate Panel for the First Circuit and a visiting Judge in the Districts of Delaware and New Hampshire. Judge Kornreich is widely recognized for his work as both a trial and appellate judge. He presided over many of the largest and most complex reorganizations in Maine history including Great Northern Paper and Androscoggin Energy, a cross-border natural gas case.  Judge Kornreich is held in high esteem by the bar for his skillful mediation of complex disputes and for finding pragmatic, cost-effective solutions in difficult cases. His practice now focuses upon mediation, consulting and fiduciary services throughout North America.  For the past 30 years Judge Kornreich has also served as president of Congregation Beth Abraham in Bangor, Maine where he taught classes in Jewish philosophy and ethics.  In addition he serves on the advisory board of the Jewish Law Institute at Touro College Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Center in New York. Judge Kornreich is married to Patricia Kornreich and they have four married daughters and twelve grandchildren in Israel and America.
